Lieutenant Aloom was a lieutenant in the Arrida Guard.
Journey to Mararoc
He accompanied Selethen, Halt, Svengal, Will, Cassandra, and Gilan to Mararoc. He took part in the battle with the Tualaghi but was later abandoned in the desert with inadequate water upon the Arridi defeat. Taking charge of the group of soldiers (due to the capture of Selethen, Halt, Svengal, Cassandra, and Gilan), he carefully rationed the water and attempted to help his men survive. Finally, Will and the Bedullin found him and his men and all left to battle the Tualaghi again, this time in the town of Maashava, in order to release the Wakir and his friends.
Battle of Maashava
As the little army Will, Aloom, and Umar (leader of the Bedullin) took up positions in and around the city of Maashava, where the Tualaghi were preparing to execute their prisoners, Aloom accompanied Will to infiltrate the city so that when the attack began Aloom would protect Will while Will protected the small, unarmed group of prisoners. Just before entering Umar promoted Aloom to Captain in order to insure that all warriors during the attack obeyed him.
Aloom was soon called upon to begin his role even before the attack began. Three Tualaghi warriors discovered them while Will was getting into position. Aloom, though a superior swordsman, was wounded badly on the upper arm, another slash across the leg, and one across the forehead. Will worried that Aloom would die without him came to the rescue, dispatched the three Tualaghi warriors, and then upon Aloom's beckoning raced back into position to protect his friends.
As the battle drew to a close Will returned to the side of Aloom. Aloom asked two things before his death.
"Did we win?"
"The Wakir.... is he safe?"
Then, Aloom succumbing to his wounds and blood loss, died.
