History[]
MacNeil trained Gilan and his father David in the art of the sword. He was considered one of the best swordmasters in the land.
Gilan was likely to have trained under MacNeil even while he trained as a Ranger with Halt. Gilan's training with the sword before becoming a Ranger and his exceptional skill were the reasons he was allowed to do so.
